Hey all, I finished work today. It's kind of bitter sweet. I thought I would be overjoyed by it, but I still have not gotten the full effect of it. I'm going to miss my coworkers and San Diego, on the other hand i'll be closer to my family and friends. Tonight is the last night down here, i'm just getting together my odds and ends stuff. As I was cleaning out my fridge, I realized that I wasted a lot of food. I feel guilty for doing so, hopefully I will make more of a conscious effort to not waste food anymore. I have the month of May off to do whatever I please. Hopefully I will be in Hawaii. Then I start school in June. I wonder what it is going to feel like to be a student once again. I think this time around I will be more focused, as I know what I really want to be doing. Hope all of you have a good weekend.
Oh on another note. My friend's girlfriend told me that she is going to wax his face. I told her that sucked and that I did not think it was appropriate because he is not thrilled with the idea, but she kept insisting that she wanted him to do it. Anyways, I guess she is doing this concurrently as I blog. I feel bad for him, but then again it is his own fault too for not standing his ground. Am I the only one here that thinks this situation is messed up?

so when you drink alcohol, what kind of drink do you like? do you think that you like beer more then mixed drinks? if you do like beer, what kinda beer do you like? light? dark? why do you think you like dark beer? because dark beer has more alcohol in it and you feel that you must get drunk to escape your depressed life? why is that? huh? why?
So you are probably all sick of hearing about Spain, so let me just go on about Spain some more. It is far more beautiful than I ever could have imagined. What is not beautiful however is going on an 8 hour flight, then a 2 hour stopover, then an hour delay, then another 5 hour flight only to find out that your luggage is missing. And still missing. Oh luggage, where art thou? I miss you.
(Hands outreached)

ok. so for you sports fans, i suspect a conspiracy... that the lakers threw the game tonight with the rockets so they could have their victory win in l.a. am i right? it's all corrupt.
anyway, i've found that i have adopted the office space mentality. i want to do as little as possible at my job for the same pay. you know how when you first start you're all, sure i'll stay late! oh i'll take on that extra work. and all eager to learn. me, not so much anymore. i'd like to surf the net as much as possible. maybe get in an hour to two hours worth of work. does that happen at any job after a certain amount of time? or just the ones you hate? hmm...
hey mac, so funny you mentioned the high school thing. i was at the gym and ran into an old classmate i haven't seen in years. at least five! it was so weird. but i liked her so i didn't mind that she wanted to hang out or something some time. most ahs-ers i dislike though.
morrissey tomorrow. i think i might cry. (sob)
ok. i really need to work on my article. procrastination. bah.

dang it darth, down with the clan. hey so i'm moving most of my stuff up this weekend from san diego. since i'm a nice guy, i'll let any of you come down and help out. haha. i was thinking about it, and i'm going to miss san diego, not really the city, the work, or the people, but i like living alone and away from alhambra. on the plus side i'll be in close vicinity to my friends. also i will be starting another journey for my career.
i was back in alhambra this weekend and i saw a lot of people i knew from high school. i tried my hardest to avoid them, because i did not want to have the usual small talk. i succeeded in doing so, i think i avoided at least 5 conversations starting with the, "hey, (insert name) how ya been? blah, bleh bluh, eat my shorts....." you know the usual banter. i did not care about you before and i sure do not care what you are doing now. i guess i was rude, because they recognized me and were about to say something, but i just walked the other way/avoided eye contact after, hahaha. do i feel bad about it, nah.
i haven't exercised in a while, as i jammed my fingers thus putting my basketball playing days on hiatus, and i have had no time to surf. i'm gaining weight again. i think i should go on the swan. or not. sorry darth i bet watching that was the worst 30 seconds of your life.
hey for all you people in espana, have a safe trip back home, and if you get home early, i'll let you guys help me move too. haha.
tunes for april:
Jaw, Knee, Music - NOFX
The Power of Moonlite - Tiger Army

So here are som random quotes of the day:
"my purpose is, I think, to infuse diversity into television. and not in the lame upn way"
"There comes a time when every man has to make a choice. Whether it's a professional choice... or whether it's a personal choice. In the end, it's about integrity. And it's about chasing after what you really want. ...Even if that means showing you both care a little. And sometimes...well, sometimes you just have to do what's right for your friend. ...Even if it means sacrificing your own happiness. When it comes down to it, you just have to be proud of the decision you make. "
"Josh and I could school them" - haha
"Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny"
If any of you are really bored as mac was earlier, i invite you all to check out this site click here fun times!!!
hmm what else can i blog about. oh i know, yesterday i downloaded some footage of the taping of the climatic fight scene from star wars episode 3. It looks really cool!! I caught about 30 sec of the swan the other day and i think i wanted to die, my sister was flipping through and stopped on it, good gosh it was downright unwatchable...worst show ever! I want to go bowling, havent been in 2 weeks, which is long for me cause i was going at least once a week for about a year...its a tough layoff. why are people so dumb? like if you are dumb do you realize that you are dumb? same with crazy people.

i did my first interview in a looong time and i was pretty nervous but i guess it went well. it required a lot of research and formulating the questions to sound more like a conversation than a Q&A session. transcribing is such a pain! and do you ever notice how weird your voice sounds in the tape recorder? the entire time i'm like, i sound like that?
anyway, wish i was in spain. (sigh)

currently in san diego, at mac's computer, waiting for him to come home...haha...this morning i got up to mtv's made, it was about this girl who wanted to be a beauty pagent queen. she was really dork and unstyled to what society would deem as normal, and did they get her all this plastic surgery like the swan? no they simply redid her hair and clothes and gave her some self confidence...i guess fox doesn't think that would be worth a whole series so why no just make them over without the self esteem...yeah that will work...haha.
yes NOFX/Alkaline show was pretty good, the white wedding part was dope, but they seemed to drunk or tired to really get into it. i knew i was going to hear some crazy liberal speak which i did, and its nothing that i haven't heard before, so it wasn't any eye opening experience and to some extent i think over dramaticized, but thats just me. NOFX was pretty dope I saw them briefly many years ago, and they haven't lost anything....great show and rep with the audience for Fat Mike and El Hefe.
Sorry I was never a big Jem fan, i remember it being on, but thats about it....but your review was freaky, thanks dorkus.
Oh the reason I am at Mac's computer is i am in san diego, cause we went to the dodgers padres game last night. Another great victory for the dodgers!! go blue go....we even got to meet the dodgers owner frank mccourt, who slapped us some high-5s....a great highlight for me!!!
for the record....mac it was you who used to go out with her, not me, you must have us mixed up. so good job with that.
for those of you who are going to spain, buy me something cool......like a matador hat or running of the bulls costume....that would be sweeeeet!!!!!!!!! oooh and some spanish fly..for the ladies.....oooohhhhh yeah!!!!!!!!
oh back a few blogs ago hedwig had asked about parental communication. I have to say that me and my parents are not close at all. Growing up in a very strict asian household we do not talk except when we are spoken too. anything personal is never discussed and is kept private, or else we are beaten. jk......honestly though, I talk to my parents but never fully open up and tell them everything, they would be scared i think...we just don't do that, I'll answer their questions but for the most part they respect my privacy and talk only when they think that i am comfortable with the topic.

I'M SOOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!! That's all I have to know about the Swan from the commercial. I refuse to watch it, I refuse to hear about it. It's just wrong, who comes up with this crap, and I don't believe they get paid to do this and where can I apply?
Dorkus that Jem review was awesome. Haha. I felt the same way when I purchased the Transformers Season 1 set a while back. Cartoons were so much better back then, now I feel and sound old.
The Rock against Bush Tour was pretty cool. NOFX was downright awesome. Fat Mike and El Hefe were funny and Eric Melvin played his accordion, that was sweet. I was disappointed in Alkaline Trio, which added another guitarist for the show?/group?, anyways it is unwarranted. They were boring to me, maybe because they played a lot of their new songs, which are not very good in the first place. So it was a lackluster set, they did play Cringe though and also they played a bit of Billy Idol's "White Wedding" during the middle of a The Damned song they were covering, that was cool. The other 2 bands I didn't care for, or was I even around to listen to them. 2 things about the show that annoyed me. First off OC idiots running rampant and moshing and looking at the mosh pit and not paying any attention to the show whatsoever. Second, I heard some moron talking and he said that Fat Mike was too political when he was talking about his stance on the president and our government. THE ROCK AGAINST THE BUSH TOUR was the name of the show was it not? I mean you don't have to be there and support the cause, and I know that Darth didn't, and you are there to enjoy the bands, but what do you really expect? Seriously folks how stupid,....... grrrrr.........sigh........., they were probably there just to "happy mosh pitting" anyways cause the talking goat told them to.......anyone that knows that reference is cool.
Finally, you people going to Spain........lucky bastards........I say that with the utmost respect, i'm just jealous. Well in your face people, you know where I get to go to in 2 weeks. ALHAMBRA, yea that's right. Now i'm sad, I think i'm going to go listen to some Dashboard Confessional and cry. On a real note, have fun in Spain and be careful out there. Oh and New Wave, forget sight-seeing, it's all about the food and shopping when you go to foreign countries. Duh, didn't you know that? Hahaha. I can't believe Darth used to go out with her..........sigh.

spain !!! so i haven't really been thinking about it due to work ... long story short i pretty much doubled my workload because some guy got laid off, oh well .... but now that spain is upon me i can't wait. i was doing some research and dang. there is so much to see and do and eat .... ha ha yea all i'm doing to do is eat and shop (rolling my eyes).

wow dorkus. you really analyzed that Jem. i was more amazed by the adult themes the cartoon dealt with - i.e. embezzlement, love triangles, blackmail. i guess that's why us kids enjoyed the show so much... or maybe we just didn't know what was going on. i enjoyed watching the first few episodes but after awhile the show made me sick. and their songs really do sound the same!
ok. enough about jem.
i've decided that since i'm so unhappy with the mind numbing monotony of work, hobbies are a nice distraction. i'm looking into doing more freelancing and my friend and i might take weekend classes. probably language. ever notice that in other countries, it's common to be at least bilingual while in america, it's common to be monolingual? that's just my observation.
today some coworkers were talking about the documentary "supersize me" and then after much discussion decided that they were craving mcdonalds. so they went out and bought a mcgriddle. ew.

Best Worst line from Bring It On Again (yeah yeah): "Why suck when we can NOT suck?"
First Runner-Up: "Oh yeah, well you wax your butt!"
(Note to self: Why oh why do I do this to myself??)
Moving on...I recently purchased the Jem and the Holograms: First and Second Complete Seasons DVD Set...omg it is SO "truly outrageous"!!!!! I love it. You are automatically transported back in time when you watch this cartoon. After watching a couple episodes, I have figured out that there are various "rules" the cartoon follows. For instance:
1. Rich people appear out of nowhere. Example: Jem and the Holograms are performing at a Battle of the Bands, and out of nowhere, a rich producer offers the winner of the battle of the bands a movie contract, $$$$, and a mansion to live in. Second example: Jem and her crew are at the mansion and out of nowhere a rich French countess appears and invites them to her yacht party. (The same goes for villains. As soon as one exits, another appears out of thin air.)
2. Bad animation. I'm pretty much convinced they hired several different artists to draw the cartoon, and then they piece it together. Example: In one scene, Jem's pink eye shadow disappears, then appears again, then disappears. Second example: Rio (Jerrico/Jem's bf) eyes change from blue to purple. Third example: There's two different theme songs; you can never guess which one they're gonna play.
3. Lack of security for any of the villains. Example: A bad guy gets onto the set of Jem's movie and knocks over a gargoyle off the top of the building. Second example: The Misfits find their way onto the yacht and ruin the party. Well, they ruin everything actually. (If however, there happens to be a security guard, the Misfits use their conniving way to get in, and they ALWAYS do.) Funny side note: One security guard says to the Misfits: "Who do you think you are? Duran Duran?"
4. When you are angry, knock over furniture. Every single time the Misfits get angry which is pretty much all the time, they knock over furniture to show how angry they are.
5. All Jem songs sound the same. All Misfits songs sound the same.
6. Rio must always save Jem from sort of physical danger, causing Jerrica (who is Jem) to get jealous. Um yeah, Jerrica is jealous of herself. She crazy!
7. Nothing should ever make sense. Example: Why would Jerrica's dad leave her a hologram machine (Synergy), a closet full of rockstar outfits, a cool car, but not enough money to take care of herself? I don't know. Don't try to think about it either. Things not making sense if probably the best thing about the show. You are sitting there most of the time going, "Huh??"
Okay, I can go on and on about the show. Bottom line: I love this dvd set. It's truly addicting. Oh yeah, The Misfits rock, Jem and the Holograms suck!
Third example: There's two different theme songs; you can never guess which one they're gonna play.

i don't think there are any good karaoke places in alhambra, the closest place to go next is probably k-town. there's vermont karaoke and cafe but i think they've gotten pretty ghetto since i've last been there, but they have great song selection in all languages. i think a room is $25 an hour. there's also orchid and palm tree. palm tree is pretty nice and a room that fits 8-10 people is $20 an hour, but their english song selections aren't too great. they have some rap songs and linkin park but that's as current as they get. i don't remember the rates at orchid but they have good song selection and and it's pretty nice there. ok...i know way too much about karaoke places.
sorry hedwig, dunno any karaoke places in alhambra, but.................the best place for karaoke is cafe yuyu's near ucla on sawtelle by giant robot and right underneath the curry house. why, because they have the best variety of music ever. i mean where else can you rock out singing dashboard confessi.............i mean other new bands....
hopefully someone reads this in time. so on friday i'm going out w/ a friend visiting from NY. we were going to go eat in the alhambra area...then we wanted to go karaoke. does anyone know of a good place to go? it needs to be cheap but not ghetto, good selection of american music and near alhambra.....ok any help would be appreciated. thanks!

i too liked eternal sunshine. i had no problem with jim carey, i actually think he is a good actor and can pull off serious roles, but he's just type casted as a comic.
anyways, almost done with work, and back to school for me. kinda scared, anxious, happy, i guess a bunch of mixed feelings actually.
as far as the asian parents go. i guess i got lucky, it's really easy for me to communicate with my parents. and i can talk to them about anything. they are traditional koreans, but i guess not in that aspect of hiding feelings. i am an only child though, so that could be a factor into why it's easier for me to communicate with them, since they gave me all the attention throughout my life. one last factor i may mention is that they are not together anymore either, so i guess that may have some impact as well. but i do know in the traditional sense, that asian parents keep hidden their feelings, but deep down i guess as an american/asian, you just have to realize that they love you no matter what. it's a hard place to be in when you have 2 different cultures to learn, but you live and grow with them, and hopefully you can have a better sense of what to do with your own kids in the future. well that's just one man's opinion.
next wednesday Alkaline Trio & NOFX, so sweet!!!!!

monday's are so freaking hard for me :(
so i came back from SF yesterday. it was a good time, it was nice to see FTC even though i'm going to see him in two weeks for SPAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. we went to the golden gate bridge, fisherman's wharf pier 39, union square and castro. it was all relatively quick since we only had one full day there. after the trip i realized i would really like to move up to SF but the cost of living there is insane :(. i'm just not a fan of LA or "the OC" (insert california song here) for many reasons. SF seems more like something i can vibe with because of the public transportation like the bart and muni, the huge asian community there, and the history behind the city. let's face it ... LA has some good history as well but it is too trendy and icky here and the oc i think is still fairly new. eh who knows all just wishful thinking.
oh in case you were wondering, i have been to SF before. i was actually taking a friend who had never been there before even though she lived in cal. her whole life BUT i found out while up there, there were some people from SF who have never been to LA. how strange is that. eh go figure.
as for your question hedwig .... yea forget the lines of communications with asian parents. i think it is really hard for most asian people esp. traditional type to be very open about their feelings because we are a pretty passive culture. you can't really be too hard on your mom because i'm sure she is looking at you thinking all this stuff as well. sometimes i get really bummed at how americaized i have become but then i remember this is freaking america ......
here's something i don't get. how come asians are so quick to assimulate into american culture yet hispanics and blacks still remain very rich within their culture. many hispanics i know still speak fluent spanish and keep up a lot of the old traditions. however some asians are so quick to make themselves seperate from their culture ... like many don't know how to speak their mother lanuage (like myself), are quick to pick up american or british type cultural behavior, have never been to any asian country and don't plan to go because either (i) it is too dirty (ii) too far or (iii) they are not interested and they can't speak the language, and mock other asians who are more fob like (even i do this one). what's the deal??

yes, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind is brilliant. although i found jim carrey a little distracting.
my weekend was filled with mindless action. i'm finding that to be more and more common nowadays. i went to aron's parking lot sale and bought 12 cds for $20. v. good deal. and of course, i like to observe the psychos who bring in their own crates and fill 'em up with cds.
as for hedwig's question, i think asians do not openly discuss certain issues (i.e. asian families do not have the 'birds and the bees' talk). it is a weird balance being an asian and an american, especially the various levels of how deeply ingrained you are in either culture. i sort of find myself more deferential to authority and passive than typical americans. but also more open minded and resistant to patriarchy than typical asians.
now to go off on a rant: this reminds me of my colleague who was laughing at an article that reported a group was creating a fake society that would grant scholarships to whites, if they wrote an essay about their white culture. "white" doesn't really exist as a culture. there isn't a whiteland where this white culture immigrated from. it's not a double standard for asian americans or african americans to write about their dual culture experiences. they are identifying with how they marry the two and whether there are compromises in the process.

hey house. I have a question for the asians in the house. It's kind of personal but I think it would be an interesting discussion. How close are you to your parents and are they big on communication? I ask this because I recently tried to open some lines of communication with my mom concerning issues I have with our relationship...i guess it was a step in trying to become an adult and gain some autonomy from my mother, but at the same time form some sort of DEEPER relationship with her. but it backfired and she viewed it as disrespectful and that i was being "too american" and she says that my bf who is white has influenced me which is dumb because I grew up in America and THAT'S influenced me, not my bf. ANYHOW, she said she didn't want to communicate anymore because it was just making things worse.....which sux because I am a firm believer of communication. then i talked to my friend who is also filipino and we realized that communication isn't big in the asian culture. is our theory correct?
so i'm stuck in that endless see-saw between the obedient, passive asian daughter and the american woman that speaks her mind; raised in america but expected to act "asian"....

I finally got to see the preview for Kill Bill 2 and I can't wait to watch the movie. I also bought the new Switchfoot cd (instead of downloading) just because I always feel the need to support my San Diego musicians. I grew up there so I feel that there's a bond. Anyway, it's actually a really good driving CD...especially in the 405 traffic.

Oh happy day for me at work. Oh yeah, and as you can tell i'm really busy today.
