I think the controversy is good, the reason behind all of it is that the film sheds a raw light of the last hours of one of the most prolific figures in history. Religous leaders, mainly Jewish, seem to denounce the film, from what I can gather. There are obvious reasons for that, but I think the general public will go see the film for what it is, a movie. What they get out of it, is left to them, whether it be an epiphany, a new view on Jesus, pure entertainment value, and so on. As a believer it has sparked my interest and I will watch the movie, but not solely for that reason.

I'm not sure the intent of which Mel Gibson had for producing this film, in any case I think it is a breath of fresh air from Hollywood, seeing as how everyone in Hollywood seems to follow Scientology. This is an irrelevent point, but there was no controversy when Battlefield Earth was released, it sucked, yes, but it was based on the ideologies of Scientology. There was no religous uproar. What's my point, no point, I just had the urge to restate that I, against my own will, was forced to watch this movie, and am bitter for wasting 2 hours of my life doing so.
you mean you DON'T want to "shake your body body" dorkus?

side note, anyone going to go see "The Passion"...and while I'm at it, what does everyone think about all the controversy?
Pigern - a job well done!

Monday, February 23

tonight i went to a short film festival held by RES. it was pretty interesting... kind of reminded me of the events that the film/tv department would hold at ucla. basically, we got to watch some music videos and short films and directors/creators of them discuss and answer questions after the show.
the best part was a lot of the music videos were from artists that i liked. anyway the event is held every month so check it out: RES
how do you think nader will affect the democratic election? only marginally? or significantly?
went to a RES screening today. they showed some interesting video / graphic stuff. my faves were invisible skateborads by rick howard and spike jonze, madvillain - all caps by james reitano, ween - transdermal celebration by adam philips and the japanese tradition: relationships by namikibashi. the last one, the japanese tradition, was hilarlious .... so good.

hey rancid girl .... i heard that sharkees place is suppose to be pretty happening but a bit on the ghetto side and anyways you know slutty girls and creepy guys will do anything to get into some tired bar. ha ha.

sadly i don't watch surreal life so i can't join in that conversation. i'll just spend this rant reviewing stuff cause i'm bored -

movies:
dickie roberts - former child star: 4.5 it was fair ... i think the best part of the whole movie was seeing brendan fraser. i love him :) hee hee. i didn't even know he was going to make a cameo so that was a treat.

starsky & hutch: 5.5 it was okay. no where near as funny as zoolander for me but it had its moments like snoop dogg and vince vaughn.

shows:
no motiv: 6.0 they were solid though they only played less than 10 songs. that was a bit disappointing but they weren't the headlining band so understandable.
Oh man, I watch the Surreal life too. For whatever reason that show is pretty entertaining to me. Talk about a diverse cast of characters (Ron Jeremy, Traci Bingham, RealWorld LV Trishelle, Vanilla Ice, Ponch-Eric Estrada, Tammy Baker)....Boy, I never realized how damn ugly Trishelle and Traci Bingham were.

Anyway, Eric Estrada will always be the shiznit. It was cool when Vanilla Ice started singing his own song at the karoake bar after Trishelle and Traci were killing the song. It inspired me to wanna sing the song when we went karoaking saturday night but the damn place didn't have it in their song book!
YAY! done with my first neuro test!!! it wasn't THAT bad....but we'll see
Dorkus you are so lucky you get to go to Hawaii for work…that’s awesome! It must be cool to have a job that allows you to travel. My job keeps me tied to a desk doing journal entries, spreadsheets and analysis. Fun stuff, blah!
Anyways, I’m excited about my trip to Asia in May. We’re going to Beijing, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Seoul. I have to admit I was a little worried about the Bird Flu at first, but I think it should be okay. Hedwig, TWIFOSLY is it something I should be alarmed about? But I’m planning to buy a karaoke machine while I’m there so when I come back party at my place! =) I know how much you love to karaoke New Wave and Darth!

Sunday, February 22

I was having dinner in Hermosa Beach on Saturday and right beside Sangria is this club called Sharkees. I guess it's a pretty good club/bar because even though the pouring rain.....there was a line of people waiting outside!!! They were all drenched and looked miserable. It was a funny sight.
this past weekend and tonight i have learned a valuable lesson: lactose is evil. i had a chai (and forgot to ask for soy) last saturday and then i had cheese tonight and my stomach felt dreadful. argh! so queasy i couldn't even sleep. evil!

Friday, February 20

oh man did anybody catch vanilla ice on the surreal life? my life has come full circle now. haha. for those who don't know, he did a karaoke version of ice ice baby. it was beautiful. you know what else is beautiful, the new york yankees lineup for the 2004 season. man what an exciting year for baseball. tee hee. oh joy, i get to drive back up to la today, i hope i hit tons of traffic, that always seems to make my drive up that much more enjoyable. have a good weekend all.

Tuesday, February 17

Don't you just LOVE it when you're sick? The aches, the pains, and the chills! it feels WONderful. Not to mention the incessant coughing and runny nose, which can only be topped by the resultant headache!!! Then going to urgent care to get it checked out and waiting for 2 hours?! only to find out that i could have diagnosed myself. AWESOME! woohoo! I love today!
Aww yeah, my work is sending me to Hawaii for about 6 days (life's rough). So I tacked on about 5 extra days and I will be there for 11 days total. YAHOO!!!!!! Can't wait. Then a a month after that, it's off to SPAIN!
Seriously new wave, you rant about EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!! So because you rant about everything, it makes your rants less effective.

P.S. I HEART BEN GIBBARD

christigger3 (11:44:38 PM): new wave girl would like to refer back to her rant on the blogger about the whole ben gibbard issue. (REF. TO FEB. 3 ENTRY)
christigger3 (11:44:45 PM): now she is mocking. ew.

Mi55Informed (11:45:12 PM): yeah!

christigger3 (11:48:00 PM): what sad little life i lead

dang i am fucking pathetic ... what the @#%$^&*# is wrong me !!!!! (violently sobbing)

Sunday, February 15

not much time to blog...just wanted to say kudos on the page it looks great! and i had fun in reno:
cheers: discovered that blackjack is a fun game, awesome italian restaurant in Harrah's called Cafe Andreotti, the Chef's Buffet at El Dorado(the redhead and i probably ate a plate and a half of shrimp cocktail) for only 15 bucks!! free drinks at the tables!
boos: lost all the money i brought :(, southwest sux! haha
but it was all well worth it

listening to: josh grobans new CD-Closer(7.5--a little bit lower than his first CD-which i would have rated an 8, but solid sophomore effort)
hi house mates ... so i'm trying to get the blog page to look better and i think i'm at a good point.

nothng much to really say .... glad i have a long weekend so i can rest up. my parents went out of town for two weeks. they went to hong kong and thailand. man i want to travel so bad. i know i'm going to spain in april but that is not enough for me. i would love to go to hong kong again. (sigh)

i added a rating system to our blog page so we can let other people in the house know about certain movies and music so please start using it. :)

watched: these are some movies i have watched recently:

party monster - 4.0 not so good but not so bad but really not so good. i found it dull and dragging at certain points. however seth green was good and no i'm not just saying that cause i like him as an actor.
thirteen - 3.9 straight should of been on lifetime type of movie
healing hearts - 6.0 granted story not that great but hello tony was in so it made up for if :) hee hee.

Friday, February 13

Woohoo!!! I'm going to Reno today for Vday. I've never been, and despite the fact that I've only heard "not so good" things about it when I do mention Reno, I think I'll have a blast anyway. The red head and I are gonna learn how to play craps, I'm gonna teach him how to play Pai Gow and HOPEfully we can win some good money!!!

Another WOOHOO! for Europe! My cousin and I are in the process of closing up our itinerary for Europe. They just need to confirm this one promotion for 50% off the flight. I'm so excited and yet so guilty about spending so much friggin money, but it's ok. I'm sure it will be a totally worthwhile experience.

See Friday the 13th isn't so bad.....*knocks on wood*(as it is only 918 in the morning haha)
okay house here is some big news concerning me.......after much soul searching and deliberation I am here to announce that I will not be retiring from competitive bowling this upcoming season. The team was not ready to call it quits and requested my return. so it turns out this march will not be my ride off into the sunset as I had earlier reported to some of you.

Wednesday, February 11

is it just me or are the days just flying by. i've been pretty tired everyday coming home from work ... ah work ... it will be the death of me. i just feel like i have no time for anything but it's alright cause i'm learning a lot and keeping busy. i've only been there for 2.5 months now but i'm not kidding it feels like 6 or 7. who knows maybe i'm just being a baby about this.

so here is a work/weird horror story for you guys - i was in the kitchen making my hot cocoa and oatmeal when i heard three i would say yuppie mid to late 30's white people discuss the grammys. so the woman goes what is the difference between rap and hip hop and the two males gave her the most educated and well thought out answer i have ever heard. it was something like "rap is spoken poetry set to certain rhythem and hip hop is more just dancing" and the woman goes well why does rap have to be so angry and the men said cause it is coming from the streets ..... WOW ..... weird.

did i mention i'm really into chinese movies now. i feel bad that i use to make fun of my one friend about it when here i am watching them all the time. :) hee hee. or at least when i can. okay serious tony leung is so handsome to me. not dreamy cute like johnny depp or hot like brendan fraser but like handsome even if he is super short and kinda of skinny. he has this quiet thinking looking which is cool. the best known movie in america i know he did is in the mood for love.

so any plans for those couples out there for valentine's day aka if you are single kill yourself now day. ha ha. nothing much for me but like that should be a surprise. i know hedwig is heading to reno and that's about it.

i'll post the music i'll listening to later but quickly ...

prefuse 73 - plastic
no motiv - where did you go
air - venus
low - dinosaur act
missy elliott - i'm really hot
radiohead kid a album

spinning: uprock and invigorate - prefuse 73

wow. everyone seems to be moving on. and moving up! yay! i hope i can do the same.
dorkus, i'm so jealous re: the shins. :( oh well. BK is back! woo hoo!
i'm currently listening to:
metric: combat baby
sunday's best: the salt mines of santa monica
idlewild: live in a hiding place (live version)
the rentals: friend of p.
but i can't get phantom planet's california out of my head. curse!
hey darth good to see that you are back, but did you ever get a chance to ask the colonel what's up with the changing of the meaning of the acronym, KFC? it stands for kitchen fresh chicken now? what's up with that? do they think that consumers are stupid and will think it's healthier now? oh well just a thought. oh yeah, as for your debate with you and your cousin, you should ask my friend bill goldberg, he'll know. kudos to you on your new job as well, i'm pretty sure that "office bitch" will apply for some time. assistant always seems to carry that burden, hopefully it won't last long though. for seriously. spring training woo hoo!

i too am heading down a different path now. i will be going back to school to earn my docotorate in physical therapy. i will be leaving sunny san diego in a couple of months to move back home and take some prereq classes at a c.c. before i apply to other schools. i just wish it did not take me so long to realize what i wanted to do earlier. it's okay though, better late than never right?

february tunes:
simon & garfunkel - the sound of silence
screeching weasel - the science of religion
ben e. king - stand by me
me first and the gimme gimmes - the phantom of the opera
nine inch nails - something i can never have
nofx - the decline
william hung - she bangs
hmm i guess I should blog since I haven't for a while and I may get kicked out if I don't. I just got back from Kentucky tonight. Fun times hanging with the Hutchins side of my family which I rarely get to do. Seems like get togethers only happen for weddings now, which got me and my guy cousin arguing as to who was next...fun times. In other news I have gotten a new job which i'm pretty excited about since I will actually be using my degree!!! Scary isn't it? I am leaving the housing authority to become the executive assistant to the chairman of the board of supervisors. long title i know. It should lead to bigger and better things in the future if I show quality work, so i really need to get myself going everyday. It will be kinda sad to leave my office since I have been there for 2+ years now and I feel pretty close to a couple of people there, but its for the best that I leave. New job....new car...am I actually growing up? wth? no i didn't think so either. In other news I have been so tired of late, i have trouble making it past 8:30-9:00 some days.....scary isn't it...could my months of lack of sleep finally be catching up with me? Baseball spring training starts next week...who is excited??!?!?! oh yeah just me...haha....

Monday, February 9

the shins ROCK! magic magician and all night radio can kiss my ass.

that's all i got.

Saturday, February 7

hey rancid girl, the yeah yeah yeahs are great. they only have one full length out right now (fever to tell) and two eps. i would describe their sound as kind of screamy and punk rawk. the band is fronted by karen o who is amazing live. they are playing two nights at the henry fonda next month. i rec them. check 'em out!
the coachella lineup is out now. i'm pretty excited... although most of the bands i want to see, i've already seen before. some of them several times (i.e. death cab for cutie 4x). but nevertheless, the pixies reunion should be brilliant. as well as the cure... as always.
ok. so i'm at the pharmacy the other day and they sell at home drug tests for cocaine. it seems a bit strange that they sell this but maybe that's just me.

Wednesday, February 4

hedwig, the 80s club is called club thriller (www.clubthriller.com) in Orange. you don't have to dress 80s but it's suggested. i would say that most people there were part of the indie/mod crowd. however, there were some old people and some teenyboppers too. if you go with a group of friends you'll have a good time. it's $6 cover.
Has anyone heard of the band called Yeah Yeah Yeahs? Are they good? I saw an ad on FUSE television promoting them.

Tuesday, February 3

hey dorkus, what's that 80s club in orange called? do you have to dress up 80s? and what's the cover?
first off i'm sorry about the blog page and the colors and everything ... i screwed up royaly and i'm going to try to fix it but who knows when :(

the other day my friend said "hey i like that crazy kooky band postal service," because they heard that overplayed tired "such great heights" song. okay let me explain to you what i remember of postal service when i saw them at the palace. the show started off with the jealous sound ... why is that band even existing ... THEY BLOW. then postal service came on and gave an alright performance. nothing mind blowing. the highlight of the show had to be when some teenage kid asked a girl to go to the prom with him. he passed a note to ben gibbard to read out alond and the girl accepted (insert all ahhhhhs here now) i must adimit i was pretty choked up ... WITH VOMIT. and speaking of ben gibbard what is with the huge I HEART BEN GIBBARD fan club. i swear the guy has all indie kids' panties in a bunch. sheesh he is their freaking messiah. he's got postal service, dntel and of course the great and almighty deathcab for cutie. what indie kid would not be complete without the new 'transatlanticism' album shamelessly plugged on that O.C show. ha ha. granted i did buy the postal service cd but eh. me tired of talking of this ..... moving on .......

i have this calendar by my desk that shows different world scenery / locations and i decided by 2009 (5 years from now) i want to have gone to all the places listed on the calendar. the ones with stars next to it mean i've been. what about you guys?

HAPPY GROUNDHOG'S DAY

the colors are ugly :( sorry...i liked the blue/black...OR black and red....hey lets vote on colors!!!!

Sunday, February 1

hello everyone. well if you go to the actual link of the blog page you will notice a difference. bascially i was up late at night and was messing with the page and BAM !!! i messed it up. so yea ... it is a bit ugly and bland now. i put the chatterbox back up but i got rid of the imood stuff. i'll be adding links to it as time goes on. let me know if you want me to change anything. i'm in the process of working on some other things for the page.

on an interesting note if you notice the archives go all the way back to when we first started so if you wanted to know what you posted a year ago on this day you can. it is strange to see the different people who went in and out of our house as well as the different places we are in our lives now ... YIKES.
This is me complaining:

Okay okay okay. I know I did this to myself and shouldn't be complaining because we have all been forewarned, but I watched Gigli. And this is where I start sounding like I did awhile back with my blog about the Celine Dion store in Vegas. Anybody involved in the production of this movie should have put out this disclaimer: "We are SOO sorry you watched this movie. We will pay you back in form of therapy because we are sure that after watching this movie, your life will never be the same. You will be scarred for life, and you will wake up day after day wondering why you did this to yourself."........So Gigli is definitely not one of those "so bad it's good" type of movie. More like "so bad you want to poke your eyes out and rip off your ears and stomp on them bad." Don't see for yourself, just take my word for it.

Okay, Best WORST Line from Gigli:
Jennifer Lopez: It's Turkey Time.
Ben Affleck: Huh?
JL: (motioning for him to go down on her by opening and closing her legs) Gobble Gobble!!
