(B) Timequake (Kurt Vonnegut, 1997) Grade: B+
According to Vonnegut, a timequake is when the Universe rewinds back in time, and people are forced to relive their last 10 years with no free will. It’s an interesting idea and makes you wonder how much of our lives are, in fact, “free.” The book is an unconventional narrative, interspersed with Vonnegut’s alter ego, Kilgore Trout, and general ruminations about society.

When you re-live the last ten years with no freewill are you completely aware of what is going to happen and you just do the exact same things anyway. I would go nuts not being able to alter choices I made. Though watching it all over again would give me a new perspective on everything that happened over the years.

People are aware that it's a rewind during a timequake, so when the 10 years end, people forget how to live and make decisions. They literally fall over, not knowing what to do. Pretty funny stuff. (I was going to read July next but I started Bukowski's "Women," so after that.)
