Thoughts: This documentary was a look into the making of and overall effects of the first real mainstream porn movie “Deep Throat”. It also went into showing how the porn industry has developed and changed. Many pioneers of the industry are old now but at the time they were creating the start of something big. One thing I enjoyed was how Wes Craven admitted many new film makers made porn movies as their first jobs; basically admitting he has directed porn, neat-o.
(M) Ju-Dou. (Fengliang Yang, Zhang Yimou, 1990) Grade: A-
Thoughts: A woman (Gong Li) is married off to an older man who beats her until she is able to produce a son for him. She eventually does but not with him but his nephew, who she is having a secret affair with. A fairly simple plotline with complex characters and wonderful cinematography, this film was quite enjoyable. Gong Li is such a great actress; I can see why she was Zhang Yimou’s muse for so long.
