(M) The Queen. (Stephen Frears, 2006) Grade: A

Thoughts: The Queen is an intimate behind the scenes look at what was going on with HM Queen Elizabeth II (Helen Mirren) and Tony Blair (Michael Sheen) once the news of Princess Diana’s death broke. I immensely enjoyed the movie because it was an interesting look into Britain’s culture and government. Diane’s death was a wake up call to the Royal family about just how important they were to their people as well as just how forgettable they can be. In addition, I liked how they mixed in archival footage of the grieving public and news stories about the death within the film. Helen Mirren did such an amazing job playing HM Queen Elizabeth II. After all, how do you play the Queen of England without making as ass of yourself? The casting for Tony Blair was great as well. The only thing I did not by was the actor who played Prince Charles because he was too good looking. Hee hee.
