I'm really behind in my reviews so I'm slowing catching up. Here is an old one. Oh and Hedwig and I despise the OC Performing Arts Center website and phone line because we were unable to get our Wicked tickets and now we can not go. BOOOOOOO!!!
(O) Les Miserables. (Pantages, June 11) Grade: A-
Thoughts: I love musicals. With that said Les Miserables is not a musical but more an opera, a wonderfully depressing opera. Set in France during revolutionary times, Jean Valjean is an ex-convict trying to make a new life for himself after 19 years in prison. After several years, he becomes the mayor of a small town and helps a prostitute Fauntine from going to jail. He ends up taking care of Fauntine’s daughter, Cosette after her death. The entire play/musical is beautiful and depressing at the same time. The songs that stood out for me were I Dreamed A Dream, Who Am I? and One Day More!, although Master of the House is fun. I can’t say this is my favorite musical but it was extremely enjoyable. The only complaint I could give is the production runs a bit long but aside from that I would highly recommend this musical to view.
