(M) Art School Confidential (Terry Zwigoff, 2006) Grade: CI was really looking forward to seeing this second collaboration of Zwigoff and Daniel Clowes, since Ghost World is one of my favorite films (as is the comic). Unfortunately, despite the A-list actors (John Malkovich, Steve Buscemi, Jim Broadbent, Anjelica Huston) and promising first half, the film petered out by the final reel and made me wish the screenplay had undergone a few more revisions before production. Rather than mocking cliches as it had initially done, Art School becomes one.
(G) Ladytron @ El Rey (May 9) Grade: B+Liverpool-based electronica act Ladytron performed their post-Coachella gig to a sold-out crowd, which comprised of the disinterested Los Angeles indie kids rooted to their spot on the—key word—dance floor. Ladytron equally displayed a cool, detached demeanor but it worked in their favor. Most of the songs were drawn from Witching Hour but some of the older material was tapped, such as personal favorite “Seventeen.”
i'm sooo over ladytron. i liked them like what 3 or 4 years ago. please ....
